Adjusting Calorie Intake As a woman you're going to have a little lean body mass than a man. This is natural and normal simply because males will build muscle easier due to their testosterone level. What this means for you though is that you'll need to adjust to a slightly lower calorie intake to lose weight as effectively. You won't be burning as many calories throughout the day so you'll need to eat a little fewer to account for the deficit that causes fat loss. So make sure you're using a calorie calculator for women, not one designed for males. Cycling Carbohydrates Women's bodies tend to be a little more sensitive to carbohydrate intake, you definitely don't want to decrease them completely as this will slow your metabolism, but it is a good idea to have some lower carb days. You'll find that if you're looking to lose weight from the lower body especially, lower carb diets will help far more than a higher carb diet. Interchanging between lower and higher carb days are what brings the best results. Menstrual Cycle Take note of your menstrual cycle, it will influence your energy levels, how many calories you burn as well as food cravings. Pay attention to your body you can shuffle your diet and workouts to accommodate. Remember, that you don't have to always be doing really intense workouts to see results. On the days that you really don't feel like it, listen to your body, do some exercises but opt for a lower intensity workout instead. On the days you feel better, push yourself a little harder to give your weight-loss that extra push. Metabolic Adaptation As a woman you do have higher essential body-fat levels than a male, so as you get leaner and leaner it will become more difficult as your body will recognize you're lowering your body fat levels and slow your metabolism as a survival mechanism. A reefed period where you increase your calorie intake to a more natural maintenance level every 2-3 weeks will help reset your metabolism so it keeps ticking over fast. If you have a constantly (very) low calorie intake at months at a time, your body will slow your metabolism and adapt to the low intake. So keep these ideas in mind as you go about your fat loss program.
